Melanie and Jonathan Wedding

This wedding was super fun for me because Melanie is my sister!

Melanie and Jonathan eloped earlier this year but count on my mom to make the most elaborate “small” reception. The theme was travel and I loved everything about it from the flower arrangements to the little globes. I keep trying to convince my mom to give me one of them, haha.

It was such a fun weekend surrounded by family and I loved seeing how everyone works together to make everything come together and celebrate Melanie and Jonathan. Sometimes it takes moving away from that to realize how blessed I am to have the family I have. Isn’t family the best.

Melanie’s ring is beautiful and I love that it’s turquoise- very fitting since her and Jonathan met in New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Our family is so happy to have Jonathan join the team. He likes to fish, the outdoors, board games and hiking, not to mention he is just an all around great guy.

One of my favorite parts of the evening was meeting Jonathan’s parents for the first time and seeing how much they love Melanie.

I had a realization while shooting and editing these, from the unique perspective I have as the sister-of-the-bride, about how important the pictures at the reception are.

I love details and B&G portraits because I can control and perfect them but I never thought about how much people appreciate the pictures I take of the imperfect moments- the pictures of kids dancing with dinner on their shirt and table shots of family members smiling and laughing together. This wedding gave me a new excitement and enjoyment for shooting this part of the day because I know what it feels like, a little more now, to want to see the people you love having fun- not just perfect images :).

We ended the night with dancing, and then s’mores and finally opening gifts together with the late-night crew. It was a fun night and like what Trent told me when it was over I’m a little sad we’re all married now too, only because that means this is our last party like this in the immediate family.

Thank goodness for cousins ;). Rachey- you’re next!

Congrats Mel. Love you!
