Kelly and Ryan’s Wedding Day

What a beautiful and special day. So many little miracles brought this day together. If you follow me on Instagram I eluded to “miracles and winks” that made this day come together, and let me tell you there were plenty throughout the day.

I was so happy to be able to be there, documenting Kelly and Ryan’s day. This was the third, yes THIRD time planning their wedding this year. Talk about crazy times! I was so excited when Kelly reached out to me to capture it! She is my mom’s first cousin (my grandpa and Kelly’s dad are brothers). When Kelly and I were talking, as she was getting ready, she said that this was exactly how the day was suppose to be, and I could not agree more. Everything seemed to fall right into place and felt so right. People who shouldn’t have been able to get there, arrived without a problem, and we even got a few pictures that I would have never been able to get in any other similar circumstance. God was looking down on this day.

Among a million other tiny things that fell into place was family formal pictures. We went to the Gilbert Temple for family formals, and there were signs all around saying the grounds were closed. There wasn’t some huge miracle where we got inside the gate for pictures or anything, but the closure notice signs that were hanging on the fence, Trent noticed, were attached with velcro, not zip ties. It was almost as if someone had done it just for us, so we could take them down, out of the way of the pictures, and then hang them back up afterwards.

One of my favorite moments of any wedding day is when the couple is finally married, and they are walking back down the aisle together smiling. This was especially true for this wedding! Trent and I don’t sit together during the ceremony, so we are able to capture different angles. After seeing the happy couple walk out of the ceremony, I get to meet back up with Trent and I usually can’t help but give him a hug and kiss as we talk over a few things, and get ready to start capturing guests. I’m so grateful to have a job where I get to constantly be reminded of the commitment I made to Trent, every time we photograph a wedding. I’m so blessed to have him as my photography partner AND my life partner.

I have never shared this, but Trent and I started photographing weddings together because I read His Needs Her Needs by Willard F. Harley Jr. We took the quiz at the end to find activities that we both like to do! It’s a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone who is married. It talks about something the author calls ‘recreational companionship’. He explains the importance of doing things together you both enjoy. I believe in marriage. It’s a gift from a loving God. The tender, pure love that Kelly and Ryan showed reminded me of that. Their love was evident in how they interacted with one another, and how they spoke about each other when the other was not around.

A few other things worth mentioning about their day: Their florals were AMAZING. I loved the soft pastels and succulents. Their cake was gluten-free (and gorgeous). (All applicable vendors will be listed at the end of the blog once I get those to link). Also, look at my handsome cousins (must run in the family ;).

And then it was time to get ready!!…

A few minutes for portraits before the ceremony…

And then we headed to the church for the ceremony…

Kelly and Ryan opted out of a First-Look. Kelly did mention wanting to do a hand squeeze before the ceremony and I thought it was a great idea! This was my first time doing something like this.

Back inside the church for the big moment!…

I don’t know if you can see it in the picture below on the right, but a white dove flew in and sat on the window right when I was talking that picture. In the Bible a dove represents the Holy Spirit, peace, and God’s approval. I didn’t even know dove lived around here!

On to cut the cake and enjoy time with their guests…
